Windows Key + L not disabled.

Postby scottparks » Tue Dec 01, 2009 6:09 pm

I have a Windows 7 Enterprise machine running the latest version of Kioware Basic. Upon testing today I have noticed that the Windows key even thought it is blocked still continues to function when the L, U, and P keys are pressed. Win + L carries me back to a login screen. Win + P carries me to Presentation manager and Win + U goes into Utility mode. I have the Windows Key blocked. Any Suggestions. I am new to the Kioware software and could be missing something else. Thanks for your attention.

For your reference, I created bug 1412 to investigate this issue.

For now, I have a work-around for this issue. There is a group policy setting called disable lock workstation that you can set on the user that will be running KioWare in production.

Log in as your kiosk user (may need to disable the KioWare shell first if you have it set up...although there is an easier way with task manager).
Start - Run - regedit
Find the
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\System
key.
If System is not there, create it under Policies.
Create a new Dword called DisableLockWorkstation and set it to 1.

If you need help doing that or have questions, please give us a call and we'll be happy to help.

KioWare 6.6.0 is available on our website for download and should resolve this issue.

I am still having this issue on Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit. Also, the lower blue bar on the screen always reads Licensing check in progress-- is this behavior normail since I'm using the demo version?
Thanks

Did you reboot your machine after you installed the update?
Are you blocking the Windows key from the Keyboard/Printing tab?

Yes, it is normal to see the banner when in demo mode. If you license, it will not show.
